Merry Christmas everyone, and look at our lights

It's a pleasant surprise to see how the restored grain elevator is lit at night, and the facade of the old flour mill also comes up well. Quite a landmark now.

This photo also shows how few people have moved in - only one northern apartment occupied.

  1. Merry Christmas!
The grain shed looks interresting. A nice feature. But not sure if the light is ok for those living in the surroundibg apartments. If not, perhaps it can be switched off after 10 or 11pm.

  4. Thank you Enver. I hope you had a great Christmas, we certainly did with Elana hosting her very first event in her new home. Hope we didn't make too much noise!

  6. Merry Merry everyone! Looking forward to NYE now :)
I quite like the current lights on the grain shed, but I haven't seen them shine the two white beam version that mimic the elevator anymore. So I guess there are several lighting and timer options with the grain shed.

  7. Happy New Year, Elena. I wonder if you are aware of that there is outstanding land tax payable by Ceerose and now they refused to book in settlement. My solicitor got this info yesterday and asked me to wait for further notice from Ceerose's solicitor. I'm sad to know that...and assume there may be other owners who have the similar situation. Anyway look forward to meeting you and other owners in person. Thanks again for creating this blog!

  8. Has anyone had any success connecting the NBN?
If so, which company did you go with?

  9. Hi David, I've connected by NBN with Belong (subsidiary of Telstra). No problems at all

    1. Thanks Jono,
Belong advised that G09 wasn't properly installed so NBN Co need to attend. :-(

  10. Hi Jono, do we simply call up the NBN providers directly, without any manual cable fondling ourselves, and no one physically has to come to our home to do the connection? Thanks. Raymond

  11. Hi All,
Re: NBN, we have also connected with Belong. Had issues in the first few days and had to call Belong 4 times to reconfigure some ports / channels. Also had to pay extra $ for better speed (not sure how much, I tbink around $20 per month more than standard adsl speed). Now it seems to be working ok but further testing needed as to what the actual speed will be.
Land tax - was not aware of this. Our settlement allowed for land tax as if already paid by ceerose, so it was adjusted that we had to pay land tax back to ceerose for the period from settlement to end of year. Don't think it's a big issue because there is proof that we have duly paid this land tax for the period of our ownership and this is something ceerose will be sorting out with the office of state revenue. If it comes to worse, the amount is not very material.
Blinds/Awnings - we got a quote yesterday from Apollo blinds, as recommended bt John because they seem to be cheaper than Barry. However, we still got surprised bow much blinds cost! Overall for our living room (sunscreen 3%) and bedroom (blockout for window and balcony entrance), it will cost $2100 (after allowing for a 35% discount if ordered in the next few days). Seems quite expensive. What is everyone elses's experience? I know Apollo will deliver German and Australian made fabrics of best quality etc. but is this how much blinds cost? I will also get in touch with Natalie's company for a quote.
It was nice to meet John yesterday. We hope to meet more residents soon.

    1. I have used http://www.nobullblinds.com.au in the past. They only do roller blinds, but the price is amazing.

    2. Thanks David - will check them out. It's a shame nbn co did a poor job with G09 - it will have to come out for free and fix it!

  12. Re: NBN, we just called Belong and it was connected. No one had to come out to our place. We already had a Belong wi fi router from the previous apartment as we have been with Belong for a year now.

  13. Hi Everyone,

I thought we should start putting together a list of overall Building issues to be reported to Ceerose to look into / rectify. It would be great if we all add our thoughts together. Here is a start:
    1) Water in basement / car parks. I am concerned and would like to understand where it is coming from - leaking pipes? Or underground? Are there any structural problems?
    2) Security doors on ground level in the northern building are still missing. When will they be put in place?
    3) FOB point too close to the garage roller door
    4) ? More issues/ questions ?

    1. I went into the garbage area last night (or this morning, not entirely sure) and there was a massive amount of water leaking through the chutes; into the garbage bin and garbage area.

I was in the car park (on Dec 22nd) when it was raining heavily and I think it is rain water that caused the initial flooding in the car park... it may be the same rain water seeping through the soil and through the bare rock walls in the car park even now.

I guess it is also possible that it is the rain water that is trapped in the garbage chutes and slowly dripping through. Not good if that's the case. On B1, the water is starting to stagnate and smell a bit now.

Regarding the garage roller door, I think it also needs a bit of oil or something to fix the noise...

    2. Hi Kaushal, I hope the delay in fixing this is due to Christmas/NY, as it's clearly unacceptable that the car park is wet. A friend who works in the building game saw the apartment yesterday and he was impressed by the size and quality of fixtures like doors and windows, and we must ensure HM remains a premium product (notwithstanding some problems in individual apartments). It's good that Elena has started a list of items to bring to Ceerose's attention.

    3. Hi Graham, totally agree the car park leakages are unacceptable and takes away from the premium feel of the actual building above ground.

Hopefully it will be resolved soon. I think more rain is expected in the coming days so it will be interesting to see what happens.

    4. Hi Kaushal,
Thank you for posting more info regarding the car park leakages. I am also concerned about this from the building structural integrity perspective - this is top of the list issue to report to Ceerose.
If anyone comes across more issues - please add them here.

    5. ... Adding to the list of building issues:
      5) Mailbox keys not working for some apartments
      6) Security: fire stairs should only work for people to go down, not up. Currently, anyone can walk from groujd floor up to any floor
      7) Security: going from Car Park up in the lifts - should not be allowed without keys or if buzzed intercom first (for visitors). Currently, anyone can walk into the car park and then go to Ground floorbin the lift.

  14. PS Happy New Year 2016 Everyone! For those celebrating in the HM - hope everything went well with moving in. For those still waiting to settle - best wishes with moving in.

  15. Re. NBN

don't bother upgrade to the superfasr 100/400 plan, i upgraded but got the same speed as the normal plan - report issue to NBN - they are going to send technician next week, think there are some problem with building NBN setting.

  16. Thanks Nathan. Is the technician going to look at the overall building NBN problem or just tour apartment? We would be very keen to get him to fix the whole building if it is possible or come to our apartment as well.

  18. Just sharing our NBN experience.

We are with iiNet as we are in a middle of a contract with them. We signed up for the fastest (1000/400) speed plan and it performs delightfully close to the advertised speed.

Signing up was a bit of a bumpy experience though given we are in a high service level area according to iiNet, which basically means the service can be activated automatically within 3 to 24 hours of request. However it ended up taking a few days to get internet access. Part of this was due to the turning on during the busy Christmas period and also some troubles with the automated process. According to iiNet, NBN Co reported an error in the automation and had to manually intervene. It appeared to work after that manual process and working fine since.

  19. Sharing our NBN experience. We went with TPG's unlimited 100/40 + home phone plan for $99 a month. This was the cheapest unlimited plan we could find.

The service was activated within 2 business days and I could just connect my own router and login. No NBN box installation issues at all. I do find it odd that it's located in the main bedroom built in wardrobes though.

The package also includes a modem which I'll keep for backup and a home phone which I guess will be for backup as well. Can't remember the last time I used a home phone...

Using speedtest.net I've been getting around 87/37 which is good enough for me.
