Lift and stairs to station slowly take shape

Construction of the lift and stairs to the light rail is obviously a serious piece of work, judging by how long it is taking and how much is involved. The lift will have three levels - one at the top near the driveway entrance to HM, an interim level for the cafe/restaurant at the bottom of the steps, and the bottom level onto the light rail platform. So it's not just a matter of building a lift, but the entry and exit levels in each of these places.

Easter update, the north and the light rail stairs

Harbour Mill sits on top of a sandstone cliff or escarpment overlooking Wentworth Park, and appears very tall when photographed from the bottom of the cliff on the platform of the light rail. This photo shows the last remaining scaffolding before all the old mill is revealed.

Work on the stairs down to the train platform continues, and it's quite a structure. You can also see the concrete column in the background for the lift.

Revealing more of the flour mill, plus restoring the 'loading shed'

For the first time, the restored 'Edwin Davey & Sons Flour Millers' sign is visible, and the old building is looking splendid. Here's a bit of the history

"Built in 1896, the Edwin Davey & Sons Flour Mill was one of Sydney's longest serving flour mills. A familiar and much-loved site with enormous historical significance, it underwent a no-expense-spared rebuild in 1911 after fire destroyed much of the building. The mill continued flour production until its closure in 1996, after nearly 100 years of operation. Today, its remaining walls stand as one of the last vestiges of an industry once prevalent in the area. The prominent warehouse façade of the building has become a popular, much-photographed cultural site thanks to its dramatic presence."

It's also pleasing that the 'shed' at the top of the mill, in the corner, where the grain was winched up from the train carriage below, is being fully restored. There is a weigh station under this shed, at the base of the building, still in its original condition, and hopefully that will also be restored. It's a small piece of Sydney history. Here is a close up of the scaffolding around the corner building.
